Let me just admit from the start, I'm biased. I do not like the Union. I don't like their manager, I don't like their players, I don't like their jersey, I don't like their fans. I don't have a good reason why, but each season I dislike them even more, and wish upon them failure, which makes it difficult to judge them fairly. For six seasons I think I've done a good job of it, and I'll try again here, you can be the judge.
Up front the Union have added 22 year old DP Fernando Aristeguieta on loan from FC Nantes. Talented, young, and now slightly closer to home, he could be a fine addition to the Union attack. They also added last chance hotel young talent C.J. Sapping from Sporting KC. If Aristeguieta finds form, he could be a potential golden boot winner.
In the mid, potential MVP candidate Maiden is joined by attack minded growing youngster Andrew Wenger and ageless (or aging?) Sebastian Le Toux. A potent three in a 4-2-3-1 formation popular in MLS. Holding behind them are a solid duo of Nogueira and Edu. They have the potential to be one of the best attacking midfields in MLS, but also could be one of the most disappointing.
In the back, veteran fullbacks Gaddis and Williams pair with center back duo White and Vitoria. (Vitoria, a surprising free kick specialist to watch out for if you play MLS fantasy) A solid veteran group, but nothing to blow your skirt up.
In goal, M'Bohli looks to make up for a shaky debut season in Philly, while Andre Blake will push for playing time as the future of the Union, now that Zac McMath has been cast asunder. (Or Colorado to be more precise) Neither has convinced me that they are a top level keeper in MLS, though Blake shows much more potential for me than M'Bolhi, and the time to blood a keeper is always now when he has the potential to be between the sticks for a decade or more.
Overall, Philly doesn't look bad on paper, but my gut just doesn't see them being able to pull it all together. While many think they will take the next step and get back into the playoffs, I do not have that faith.

Orlando City could be a potential disaster. They also could be a thing of beauty.
Up front, young DP Bryan Rochez should lead the attack, though Martin Paterson looks to compete for minutes. Both are new to MLS and question marks, but both hold potential to be serviceable MLS strikers. Danny Mwanga could also feature, in what could be the last chance for the young talent to finally nail down a home in MLS.
In the mid, where else can you start but with DP and former ballon d'or winner Kaka. With a pedigree like AC Milan and Real Madrid, Kaka, even at an advancing age is still the real deal, especially by MLS standards. The only questions about his 2015 will be how many matches does he single handedly win for Orlando City, and can he stay fit in a league known for its tough and physical style. He will be joined in the three of Orlando's 4-2-3-1 by the potential filled Carlos Rivas and returning OC star Kevin Molino. Behind them will be Philly CB turned midfield destroyer Amobi Okugo and Christian Higuita. The mid should be a source of strength for Orlando, not in a physical way, but in a technically gifted and fun to watch way. Lewis Neal and Estrela should also feature quite regularly should anyone fail to hit the ground running.
Defensively, the fullback positions are seen as a source of attacking promise and defensive frailty. Out left, returning to the league is Brek Shea, new to his defensive role, while out right, young Benfica man Rafael Ramos is also more of an attack minded man than a defensive rock. In the center of defense expect Seb Hines and Aurelien Collin to partner up, with Sean St. Ledger and Connor Donovan competing for time along the back line. With two attack minded newbie fullbacks and a potential red card waiting to happen in Collin, defense will be a major concern for OC fans.
Between the sticks veteran Donovan Ricketts looks to hold down the job until Talley Hall returns from injury to take on the big pair of gloves for the next several seasons.If Ricketts can return to the form he had a few seasons ago, it could help settle a questionable defense.
Overall, Orlando City should be one of the most exciting teams to watch. How could they not be with Ricardo Kaka on the pitch? How the rest of the new boys gel under the attacking philosophy of Adrian Heath alongside the members of the team continuing on from the third division USL PRO side Orlando was until last season. In a sink or swim first season, no matter what happens, Orlando City SC will be an interesting watch.

Its been quite the offseason for NYRB. Another NY club has joined the fray in noisy neighbors NYCFC, Mike Petke was thrown out with the bath water, a new GM has taken control, Theirry Henry has retired, Tim Cahill has been cut loose, and Jesse Marsch has been brought in to bring a new dimension to the team, though so far it seems like Petke 2.0 to me.
Up front, Bradley Wright Phillips brings his goal scoring prowess back for another season, this time without the creation (and defenders it attracted) of Theirry Henry. And yet all is not lost for BWP, as he looks to keep to his fantastic MLS goal scoring record.
In the mid, returning Rasputin, um, sorry, Sacha Kljestan will be an attacking and creative force for former teammate Marsch. He will also be joined by former Marsch ace man Felipe, who looks to link defense to attack while also pushing forward next to returning ginger stalwart, Dax McCarty. Out wide Sam returns, while Mike Grella and Sal Zizzo look to compete for the starting job out left.
Defensively, Ronald Zubar enters the picture, to be paired in central defense with either Perrinelle or Hurtado. The left side will again see the attacking mindset of Roy Miller, while the right will belong to Duvall. How these four perform will determine if keeper Luis Robles will have an easy or difficult season.
Overall, I expect one if not two summer DP signings to join the club provided Red Bull still have an interest in the club, and the front six look to be one of the most entertaining in MLS. The real question about Red Bull will be defense, and quite the question it is, but in Jesse Marsch I trust, and you should too.

Man City B squad, um, sorry, New York City FC kicks off its inaugural season this year, with top young MLS manager Jason Kreis at the helm. Though they have faced some rocky moments in the offseason with the whole Frank Lampard saga, they look to hit the ground running with those who are there from the start, using Kreis' patented 4-4-2 tight diamond MLS formation.
Up front potential league leading scorer David Villa joins the league, having won everything there is to win in the rest of his career. Wether or not MLS trophies can be added to that tally is a whole other question. As is the strike partner Villa will have along his side this season. Name, Mullins, Shelton, and Taylor all look to be given a go, though my trick elbow says Kreis may be forced to ditch the 4-4-2 once Lampard arrives.
In the midfield, Ned Grabavoy looks to play in a more advanced role until Lampard arrives, with USMNT arrival Mix Diskerud surprisingly favored for the deep lying role which Kyle Beckerman made famous for Kreis in Salt Lake. More natural defensive mid Andrew Jacobson looks to play the tight right side of the diamond, with Ballouchy tight left. For me, once Lampard arrives, a 4-2- tight 3-1 should be the favored formation without a Beckerman type, with Villa supported by Lampard and Mix, and Jacobson and Ballouchy holding down the defensive roles, with Velasquez gaining a more prominent role.
Defensively, questions abound, with Wingert and Williams holding down the fullback positions, and Mendoza and Hernandez pairing up in the center of defense until George John enters the picture mid-season. In goal expect Josh Saunders to be first choice.
Overall, most expansion teams have issues starting out (Chicago and Seattle aside) and NYCFC looks to be no different. With only half of the season with Frank Lampard and George John, as well as a third DP surely to arrive, all of the weight of the early season will be on David Villa. While his talent is assured, the weakness of defense and the eventual need to have two holding mid to fill the Beckerman role, it could be a long season for the new boys in blue.

Man City B squad, um, sorry, New York City FC kicks off its inaugural season this year, with top young MLS manager Jason Kreis at the helm. Though they have faced some rocky moments in the offseason with the whole Frank Lampard saga, they look to hit the ground running with those who are there from the start, using Kreis' patented 4-4-2 tight diamond MLS formation.
Up front potential league leading scorer David Villa joins the league, having won everything there is to win in the rest of his career. Wether or not MLS trophies can be added to that tally is a whole other question. As is the strike partner Villa will have along his side this season. Name, Mullins, Shelton, and Taylor all look to be given a go, though my trick elbow says Kreis may be forced to ditch the 4-4-2 once Lampard arrives.
In the midfield, Ned Grabavoy looks to play in a more advanced role until Lampard arrives, with USMNT arrival Mix Diskerud surprisingly favored for the deep lying role which Kyle Beckerman made famous for Kreis in Salt Lake. More natural defensive mid Andrew Jacobson looks to play the tight right side of the diamond, with Ballouchy tight left. For me, once Lampard arrives, a 4-2- tight 3-1 should be the favored formation without a Beckerman type, with Villa supported by Lampard and Mix, and Jacobson and Ballouchy holding down the defensive roles, with Velasquez gaining a more prominent role.
Defensively, questions abound, with Wingert and Williams holding down the fullback positions, and Mendoza and Hernandez pairing up in the center of defense until George John enters the picture mid-season. In goal expect Josh Saunders to be first choice.
Overall, most expansion teams have issues starting out (Chicago and Seattle aside) and NYCFC looks to be no different. With only half of the season with Frank Lampard and George John, as well as a third DP surely to arrive, all of the weight of the early season will be on David Villa. While his talent is assured, the weakness of defense and the eventual need to have two holding mid to fill the Beckerman role, it could be a long season for the new boys in blue.

Lee Nguyen was freed up to attack freely, while Jones protected and distributed. This season they look to push on, though again they will begin the season without Jones, this time due to injury.
Up front, Charlie Davies will be competing with the returned Juan Agudelo, a potentially potent addition to the Revs attack. But goals should come from all over the pitch, in particular the front four.
In the mid, Lee Nguyen returns to attempt another MVLee type of season, and his performance should dictate how far NE can go, as much as Jones will. On the wings, talented youngsters Kellen Rowe and Teal Bunbury look to add goals as well as create, while Caldwell and Jones anchor the midfield. Until Jones returns, look for Kobayashi to fill his boots.
Defensively, Tierney returns on the left, while the serviceable Alston takes over at right back. Former right back Andrew Farrell moves to his more naturally suited position of center back to fill the void left by A.J. Soares, partnering with the returning Goncalves. Between the sticks, the best hair in goal also returns in the form of Bobby Shuttleworth.
Overall, New England should be one of the more exciting teams in MLS, with plenty of goals to be had, but also a defensive soundness when Jones returns in front of a solid new CB pairing. While many would consider LA Galaxy to always be MLS Cup favorites, the Revs aren't far behind, and may be competing with the likes of LA, Columbus, and Sporting KC for the supporters shield.

A contender for worst to first this season, Montreal is also a contender for worst to still worst, and potentially the first team to fire their manager this season should Klopas fail to get all of the new faces firing early in the season. (A CONCACAF Champions League win would buy him another season no matter what happens in the league.) A case can be made for a 5th place finish, or a repeat of last season, basement finish. Only time will tell.
Up front, with inconsistency something they have in abundance, Jack McInerney looks set to get the nod over Dom Oduro as the season begins in the absence of the retired Marco Di Vaio. If for any reason either doesn't have the season of their lives, look for Montreal to bring in a DP to bolster their attack come summer.
In the mid, while Alexander and Bernier look to push for starting roles, newcomers Nigel Reo-Coker and Marco Donadel look set for the roles behind creative mid Ignacio Piatti, with Dilly Duka and Justin Mapp out wide. Almost a completely rebuilt mid, how quickly they will gel, and if Reo-Coker has anything left in the tank, will go a long way to deciding how high up the table Montreal finishes.
In the back, we again have a complete rebuild. Orange looks set to hold down the left back spot, with Toia holding the place until he arrives. New additions Ciman and Soumare look set to be the chosen CB pairing, though right back arrival Victor Cabrera could also play in the center of defense.
In goal, Evan Bush takes the big gloves, but Eric Kronberg could take over the role at the first sign of trouble.
Overall, Montreal look to be the most improved team in MLS. The major question being how likely it is for a complete roster overhaul to be immediately effective, and the questionable stewardship of Frank Klopas. My prediction for 2015 is as big a gamble as I am making.

The first to five MLS Cups could be the first to six this season. LA Galaxy look to overcome the loss of MR. MLS Landon Donovan with the summer arrival of Mr. Liverpool Steven Gerrard. They also are sitting second in the allocation order should another quality player look to return to the league and fancy a game with the Galaxy. But most importantly, the Galaxy still have the best manager in the history of MLS, a veteran core, and an unceasing hunger for trophies. (Come August they may give up the fight for the supporters shield putting all of their eggs in the CONCACAF Champions League basket.)
Up front, the dynamic duo return, with MVP Robbie Keane paired with the next big thing in US Soccer, Gyasi Zardes. Together they look to continue pouring in the goals for LA, even without the service of the departed Landon Donovan and Marcelo Sarvas. The veteran Alan Gordon also returns to come off the bench and pitch in with a few goals when needed.
In the mid, the team looks set to do a little shuffling as they await summer arrival Gerrard. Youngster Bradford Jamieson IV could be one option at left mid should Baggio Husidic be moved inside alongside Juninho before Gerrard arrives, though Zardes, Husidic, and Robbie Rogers all could see time at left mid. On the right, the job seems to be securely in the hands of Ishizaki.
Defensively, Robbie Rogers looks to continue his growth at left back, unless left mid becomes and issue for the team, with vet Dunnivant waiting in the wings to spell him. At the other fullback position, Dan Gargan looks nailed on for the job, with AJ De La Garza ready to spell him. DP Omar Gonzalez returns at CB, with Leonardo his natural partner, though De La Garza looks to put pressure on either man should they lack fitness or form. Goalkeeper Penedo remains between the sticks.
Overall LA look to be favorites for MLS Cup 2015, as they often are, and it wouldn't be a wise man who bet against them. How will Gerrard fit in? How will they fare before his arrival, without Landon Donovan? All in all, the only thing that matters is Bruce Arena.
